Allene Soshea
Watercolor Artist
I take great pleasure in creating my paintings. My greatest joy is in painting with watercolor. I paint in other media, but I especially relate to the flow, luminosity and transparency found in watercolor.
When viewing my paintings, I am frequently asked, Is this really watercolor? as my watercolors are filled with detail. I want to delight the eye when the painting is viewed closely as well as from a distance.
I especially enjoy painting landscapes and flowers in natural settings. I portray these as they are in life with some twisted stems and withered leaves, but all are beautiful in my paintings. My interest in and observation of nature comes naturally from my childhood days on a farm on the prairies of Nebraska and from my continuing interest in planning and tending my extensive flower gardens at my rural home in Snohomish County.
I have received my art education at Canáda College and at California College of Arts and Crafts, both located in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have also studied with many nationally renowned watercolorists. I have participated in many gallery shows throughout the country and have both private and corporate collectors. While living in the San Francisco Bay Area, I received the Grumbacher Gold Medal from the Society of Western Artists. I also work in watercolor, gouache, and acrylic.
